Release of Chinese Expert Guidance on Critical Care Hemoadsorption
In the September 2025 issue of the Journal of Translational Critical Care Medicine (JTCCM), a significant milestone in critical care medicine has been reached with the publication of the "Chinese Expert Guidance on Critical Care Hemoadsorption (2025)". This comprehensive guidance, developed by leading Chinese experts in the field, aims to standardize the clinical application of hemoadsorption technology in critical care.
Hemoadsorption, an important technique in the field of extracorporeal blood purification, has shown unique value in the treatment of severe conditions such as sepsis, severe acute pancreatitis (SAP), poisoning, and rhabdomyolysis (RM). However, its widespread use has also brought challenges, including a lack of unified standards for choosing adsorption materials and inconsistent research results.
To address these issues, the Sub-specialty Group for Critical Nephrology Quality Control of the National Medical Quality Control Center for Critical Care Medicine organized a team of domestic experts. Based on the latest research and clinical experience, they systematically reviewed relevant literature at home and abroad and engaged in multiple rounds of in-depth discussions. After a year of hard work, this expert guidance was finally formed.
The guidance is divided into two parts: the general part covers the basic concepts, material classification, clinical application models, operation procedures, anticoagulation treatment strategies, and complication management measures of hemoadsorption. The specific part includes the potential application value of hemoadsorption in clinical scenarios such as sepsis, SAP, poisoning, and RM.
This publication in JTCCM not only provides scientific and rigorous operation specifications and treatment pathway references for clinicians but also promotes the standardization and development of hemoadsorption technology in critical care. The full text of the guidance can be accessed at https://journals.lww.com/jtccm/fulltext/2025/09000/chinese_expert_guidance_on_critical_care.2.aspx?context=latestarticles, enabling the global medical community to benefit from this important Chinese contribution.
