LEVEL 1 – BASIC

a. Styling and structuring of the document

i. Ensure the consistency of figures and abbreviations in captions (Fig./Figure)

ii. Ensure the consistency of headlines and footnotes

b. Front matter editing as per customer style

c. Editing and tagging references as per customer requirements

d. Citation cross-check and styling

e. General spelling and punctuation checks and UK-US usage consistency

f. Styling abbreviations, binomial names, legal citations and chemical names and reactions

g. Hyphenation and capitalization consistency

h. Structuring and cross-referring floating objects (tables, figures, schemes, etc.)

i. Basic grammar check including correcting article usage, subject-verb agreement and use of prepositions

j. Checking for the use of oxford comma

 

LEVEL 2 – MEDIUM

a. All points from basic copyediting

b. Checking spelling and consistency of word usage

c. Complete grammatical check including correcting article usage, subject-verb agreement and use of prepositions

d. Checking for redundancy, jargons, etc.

e. Checking text for comprehensibility

 

LEVEL 3 – HIGH LEVEL

a. All points from basic and medium levels

b. Correct all errors in grammar, syntax and usage

c. Revisions of structure and language in keeping with the author’s intent and voice

d. Recast very long or confusing sentences or paragraphs to shorter ones
