    What is Public Health?

    Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of people and their communities. This work is achieved by promoting healthy lifestyles, researching disease and injury prevention, and detecting, preventing and responding to infectious diseases. Overall, public health is concerned with protecting the health of entire populations. These populations can be as small as a local neighborhood, or as big as an entire country or region of the world.

    Pharmacoepidemiology is the study of the use and effects of drugs in large numbers of people. It is a growing discipline that applies epidemiological techniques to study drug use in a large population. Just as the term implies, pharmacoepidemiology combines clinical pharmacology with epidemiology. Pharmacology is the study of the effects of medications in humans. It pertains to using pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of a patient to predict the drug effect on a patient.

    What is Pharmacoeconomics?

    Pharmacoeconomics refers to the scientific discipline that compares the value of one drug or drug therapy to another. It is a sub-discipline of Health economics. Pharmacoeconomic study evaluates the cost (expressed in monetary terms) and effects (expressed in terms of monetary value, efficacy or enhanced quality of life) of a drug therapy to healthcare system and society.

  • Health Decision: A new journal is launched

    Health Decision has been launched in January 2023.

    Aixia Ma, the Co-Editor-in-Chief, wrote the Inaugural Editorial of Health Decision. The topic of this article is “Improving evidence and outcomes in health decision-making in Asia-Pacific”. The editorial board was composed of young experts from the frontline of health science research and health decision-making from China, Singapore, the United States, and Europe. They drive the development of health decision-making in the Asia-Pacific region for the upcoming decades.
